The Estonian Olympic Committee has appointed Kristjan Järvi as ambassador. The Estonian conductor is the first non-athlete to hold a senior position as a standing member.“It is an honour to be part of the Olympic movement in some small way. The Piano Festival in la Roque d’Anthéron, Southern France, has sold 75.400 tickets for 67 concerts, the occupation rate being up from 65 to 70 %. With the supplementary free concerts, 85 events were organized with some 100 soloists (among them pianists like Nikolai Lugansky, Arcadi Volodos, Grigory Sokolov, Nelson Goerner, Nicholas Angelich, Christian Zacharias, Lucas Debargue, Abdel Rahman El Bacha…) 400 orchestra musicians and 6 conductors. They performed in 13 different locations in and around la Roque d’Anthéron.
Composers and authors in Russia have created a new organization for the collective management of copyright revenues, Russian Authors’ Union (ROAS). According to ROAS, rights holders have lost confidence in the existing four organizations. The new organiozation was established on the basis of non-profit partnership. The Union elected Maksim Dmitriev Director-General. The main mission of the Union will be to establish the principles of transparency and accountability.
