Kurt Masur’s former orchestra, Orchestre National de France, had planned a big event with the German conductor tonight at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. However, due to poor health, the nearly 87 old conductor cancelled, and the concert does not take place.

In the first semester of 2014, 214 projects have been submitted to Luxembourg’s National Cultural Fund (FOCUNA), 57,66 % more than in the same period of 2013. 146 projects have been subsidized (+31,53 %) for a total amount of € 279 376,55 (30,12 % less than in 2013). The construction company of the subway that will run near Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles has signed a contract with the owner of the concert hall, assuring that the most advanced noise-suppression measures will be taken to make sure the rumble of underground trains under will not be heard in the hall.

Baldur Brönnimann

Swiss conductor Baldur Brönnimann (45) has been appointed as the new Principal Conductor of Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música and Leopold Hager (78) is the new Principal Guest Conductor. Brönnimann and Hager will both start in January 2015, in succession to Christoph König, who concludes his extended term as Principal Conductor at the end of 2014, after more than six years. Baldur Brönnimann has earned a reputation as a conductor of contemporary scores. Leopold Hager is renowned for his leadership of Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra and later the Luxembourg Philharmonic.

Dan Ettinger

Dan Ettinger, seit der Spielzeit 2009/10 Generalmusikdirektor am Nationaltheater Mannheim, verlängert seinen Vertrag um ein weiteres Jahr und bleibt somit bis 2016 in seiner Funktion. Im Dezember 2013 hatte Ettinger eine Vertragsverlängerung bis 2015 unterzeichnet. « Meine Vertragsverlängerung bis 2016 ist für uns alle eine runde Sache. Die Intendanz hat mir dieses Angebot gemacht, und wir haben gemeinsam einen Weg gefunden, wie wir trotz meiner zusätzlichen nationalen und internationalen Verpflichtung u.a. als Chefdirigent der Stuttgarter Philharmoniker bis (…) 2016 zusammenarbeiten können. »

Die Spielzeit 2013/14 der Berliner Staatsoper, die vierte im durch die Rebnovierung des Stammhauses nötigen Ausweichquartier des Schiller-Theaters, kannte eine Rekordauslastung von 88 Prozent (2011/12 und 2012/13 waren es jeweils 87 Prozent). Insgesamt kamen über 183.000 Besucher zu den Veranstaltungen.

Russian pianist Andrey Gugnin, 28, is the winner of the 16th Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition in Salt Lake City. Born in 1987, Gugnin, has been involved in music since the age of seven. He graduated the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory in 2010. He already won prizes at the Beethoven International Competition in Vienna 2013 and at the Svetislav Stančić Piano Competition in Zagreb 2011.
