Diese CD mit griechischer Orchestermusik des 20. Jahrhunderts beginnt mit der Komposition Dawn at the Parthenon von Solon Michaelides (1905-1979). Es ist ein stimmungsvolles Abendbild, das aber auch die majestätische architektonische und historische Kraft der Stätte zum Ausdruck bringt. Frederick Septimus Kelly, Komponist aus Australien, lebte von 1881 bis er 1916, als er im Ersten Weltkrieg fiel. 1908 wurde er mit dem Ruder Achter in London nicht nur Sieger bei der Olympiade. Von 1903 bis 1908 studierte er am Hoch’schen Konservatorium in Frankfurt Komposition bei Iwan Knorr. Als Komponist schuf er für Australien neue Standards, indem er u. a. im Kopfsatz der Violinsonate die Sonatensatzform einsetzte. Read More →

Konzerte von Pietro Locatelli (1695-1764) erklingen auf dieser CD, gespielt auf historischen Instrumenten. Isabelle Faust und Antoninis Giardino Armonico geben sich unendlich viel Mühe mit den absolute Meisterschaft verlangenden Verzierungen, um die technische Qualität der Musik hörbar werden zu lassen und dadurch den klanglichen Reichtum der Werke hervorzustreichen, die in puncto Konstruktion, Ablauf, Harmonik und Rhythmik für die damalige Zeit sehr modern, um nicht zu sagen revolutionär waren.
