Konzerte von Pietro Locatelli (1695-1764) erklingen auf dieser CD, gespielt auf historischen Instrumenten. Isabelle Faust und Antoninis Giardino Armonico geben sich unendlich viel Mühe mit den absolute Meisterschaft verlangenden Verzierungen, um die technische Qualität der Musik hörbar werden zu lassen und dadurch den klanglichen Reichtum der Werke hervorzustreichen, die in puncto Konstruktion, Ablauf, Harmonik und Rhythmik für die damalige Zeit sehr modern, um nicht zu sagen revolutionär waren.
Im Gegensatz zu früheren Aufnahmen des Giardino geraten die Musik und insbesondere die langsame Sätze nicht zu sehr in Bewegung, was wohl auch Absicht war, sieht man sich den Titel der CD an, Il virtuoso, il poeta. Locatellis Konzerte werden schön narrativ gespielt. Der feierliche Duktus fehlt dabei ebenso wenig wie das Poetische, das mitunter auch Schelmische und das offen Virtuose. Und so vereinen sich in diesen Interpretationen Virtuosität und kunstvolle Gestaltung zu einem Ganzen.
Concertos by Pietro Locatelli (1695-1764) are heard on this CD, played on period instruments. Isabelle Faust and Antonini’s Giardino Armonico care a lot for the ornamentation, which demands absolute mastery, in order to make the technical quality of the music audible and thereby bring out the tonal richness of the works, which were very modern, not to say revolutionary, for the time in terms of construction, progression, harmony and rhythm.
In contrast to earlier recordings of the Giardino, the music and especially the slow movements do not get rushed, which was probably intentional, looking at the title of the CD, Il virtuoso, il poeta. Locatelli’s concertos are beautifully and narratively played, and we can enjoy the solemn ductus just as much as the poetic, the sometimes mischievous and the openly virtuosic. And so, in these interpretations, virtuosity and artful performance unite to form a whole.
