In response to the ambiguous political sitiation Cairo Opera House has suspended all events until further notice. According to El Ahram Online the suspension extends to all venues operating under the Cairo Opera House, including Al-Gomhoreya Theatre, Sayed Darwish Theatre, Damanhour Opera House and Alexandria Opera House.

The White House has announced that President Barack Obama will award soprano Renée Fleming with the National Medal of Arts and National Humanities Medal. The ceremony will take place on 10th July. According to a quite populist statement released by the White House, Ms Fleming will be honoured « for her contributions to American music. Known to many as ‘the people’s diva,’ Ms Fleming has captivated audiences around the world with an adventurous repertoire spanning opera and the classical tradition to jazz and contemporary pop. »

Zwölf vorzeitig geborene Kinder wurden in einer israelischen Klinik mit Musik von Bach und Mozart ‘beschallt’ bezw. keiner Musik ausgesetzt. Die Ärzte haben während des Experiments die Sauerstoff-Aufnahme und den Karbondioxid-Ausstoß der Kinder gemessen und so ihren Metabolismus berechnet. Die Studie ergab, dass die kleinen Kinder bei Mozart besser ‘funktionierten’ als bei Bach.
After an accident in her hotel in Sao Paulo on Monday night, American conductor Marin Alsop has damaged her wrist and been advised to cancel her conducting appointments for the month of July. Alsop is Music Director of the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra and will take this orchestra to Europe for a 15-date tour in October.
