In 2013, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence celebrates its 65th anniversary, with no less than five operas. It opens tonight  with the premiere of Verdi’s Rigoletto under the musical direction of  Gianandrea Noseda, staged by Robert Carsen. The program also includes:

– Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: musical direction by Marc Minkowski, stage direction by Dmitri Tcherniakov

– Elektra by Richard Strauss: musical direction by Esa-Pekka Salonen, stage direction by Patrice Chéreau

– Elena by Francesco Cavalli: musical direction by Leonardo Garcia Alarcon, stage direction by Jean-Yves Ruf

– La Casa Tomada by Vasco Mendonça (world premiere), text by Sam Holcroft, musical direction by Etienne Siebens
