Von einer Krise auf dem Markt der klassischen CD ist nichts festzustellen. Nicht weniger als 257 CDs wurden der Pizzicato-Redaktion allein im Laufe des Monats September zu rezensionszwecken zugestellt. Die neuen Platten kamen aus ganz Europa, viele aus den USA, und aus Australien, einige auch aus Lateinamerika. Wir werden versuchen, die Spreu vom Weizen zu trennen und die interessanten Veröffentlichungen in den nächsten Wochen vorzustellen.

Das Mosel Musikfestival hat dieses Jahr rund 13.000 Musikfreunde angelockt. Die 60 Konzerte an 40 Spielorten entlang der Mosel sind nach Veranstalterangaben im Durchschnitt zu 85 bis 90 Prozent gefüllt gewesen. Die 31. Saison des Festivals geht am 3. In a public report, the Administrative Court is asked to cancel the ongoing work as well as the authorization by the responsible office in the Ministry of Culture, an authorization which came after the Opera started the demolition work. The final court decision is expected end of October.

23-years-old Bulgarian pianist Victoria Vassilenko is the winner of the George Enescu Piano Competition. The young pianist performed Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 in the competition’s final, accompanied by the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by John Axelrod. Besides the 15.000 Euro prize, John Axelrod will give her the opportunity to perform under his baton, together with the Royal Orchestra of Seville. Japanese Takuma Ishii won Second Prize and Chile’s Danor Quinteros finished third.

Angesichts des steigenden Haushaltsdefizits der Kommunen in Deutschland fordert die Deutsche Orchestervereinigung (DOV) eine bessere Finanzausstattung von Städten und Gemeinden. When Valery Gergiev  conducted the Munich Phil last week, the Abendzeitung expressed the critic’s impression that the Gergiev had not thoroughly rehearsed the programme. Today, The Times takes the same line after the first of the Prokofiev concerts by the Mariinsky Orchestra and Gergiev at London’s Cadogan Hall. The newspaper writes: « Precision has never been part of the Gergiev-Mariinsky rough magic package. While not exactly sight-reading, the orchestra played as though rehearsing for the first time, without stopping to correct infelicities of articulation, intonation, blend, balance and ensemble. »

On the 3rd of December The Kersjes Fund will award the annual Kersjesprize and bursaries to excellent young musicians at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. This year the prestigious Kersjesprize (€50.000) will be awarded to the Busch Trio, and the bursaries will go to violinist Ruña ‘t Hart and conductor Stijn Berkouwer.
