The Russian Ministry of Culture is planning to cut the Bolshoi funding by €765.000, targeting the provision of health services to the theatre’s employees. According to a recommendation of the Court of Auditors, State money can no longer be allocated to the medical treatment of artists, administrative and technical staff.

Ahead of new negotiations with the musicians on strike, the Fort Worth Symphony has announced the cancellation of concerts through November 6. The Texan musicians refuse to sign a reduced contract and began a strike on September 8.

Am 3. Oktober gibt die 2015 gegründete ‘Bundesärztephilharmonie’ ihr erstes Konzert in der Hamburger Laieszhalle. Jürgen Bruns  dirigiert Werke von Alberic Magnard, Marko Muni Mihevc und Jean Sibelius (Symphonie Nr. 2). Die Bundesärztephilharmonie organisiert jährlich mit musizierenden Medizinstudenten, Ärzten und routinierten Instrumentalisten anderer Berufsgruppen eine 5-tägige Probenphase mit anschließendem Konzert. Der Erlös der Konzerte soll der Organisation ‘Ärzte ohne Grenzen’ oder ähnlichen steuerbegünstigten Körperschaften zugutekommen.

The American Press praises Gustavo Dudamel for his conducting debut at the White House. The Venezuelan conductor was due to deliver the key note speech when President Obama awarded the National Medal of Arts and National Humanities Thursday afternoon. When, during luncheon at the White House, Dudamel heard a performance by the Marine Chamber Orchestra, he could not resist to conduct the band himself, what he did spontaneously, earning much applause.

The new Musical City at Ile Seguin in Boulogne-Billancourt, a Western suburb of Paris, which is supposed to become a tough competitor for the new Philharmonic Hall in the East, has been renamed and is called now La Seine Musicale, acoustically combining the name of the river Seine and the French word scène, stage. It is due to open in 2017. The € 170 million project, designed by Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines will be equipped with a concert hall, an auditorium, rehearsal studios, a music school and shops.
