Er verstehe nun wirklich nicht, wieso ich der Netrebko-CD ‘Verismo’ eine so negative Kritik geschrieben habe, und überhaupt sei ich unverständlich streng, wenn es um die Bewertung von Stimmen gehe, meinte unlängst ein junger Kollege. Das Berliner Kammergericht hat heute in einem revolutionären Urteil festgestellt, dass die Gesellschaft für musikalische Aufführungs- und mechanische Vervielfältigungsrechte, GEMA, nicht berechtigt ist, aus den Vergütungen, die einem Komponisten zustehen, Verlegeranteile in Abzug zu bringen. Russian magazine ‘Musical Review’ was forced by the new leadership of the Russian Composers Union to leave the rooms which the editors occupied since 27 years in the union’s building in Moscow. Within two weeks the staff had to move 5000 library volumes and all other archives accumulated in 27 years. Now, the magazine is asking readers and the professional community for support.

British baritone and philanthropist Ralph Kohn has died. He was born in 1927 in Leipzig, Germany and left with his family as a result of the Nazi persecution in the 1930s. As pharmacologist he joined the pharmaceutical industry and founded own company in 1969. A trained baritone, he has given numerous recitals and performances with orchestras in the UK and abroad. Der Liederabend mit Jonas Kaufmann (47) am heutigen Sonntagabend im Theater Güterlsoh wurde abgesagt. Es sollte der erste Auftritt des Tenors nach einer Stimmbanderkrankung sein. Angeblich ist Kaufmann jetzt erkältet. Der nächste Termin ist am 22. November im Teatro Real in Madrid, danach soll Kaufmann für drei Konzerte nach Japan fliegen.

Since the British Government has cancelled any financial support of a new concert hall in London – it’s a £278 million project -, promoters are looking now for a philanthropist willing to pump a lot of money into the project, offering this sponsor the possibility that the venue could take his or her name. British conductor Simon Rattle was won as new principal conductor for the London Symphony (LSO) with the promise to build a new concert hall for the orchestra.

Matthew Loeb, international president of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, has warned of “severe consequences” due to Donald Trump’s election as president.Loeb said in a statement: “The middle class and working people are in jeopardy of experiencing severe consequences based on the positions and proposed policies espoused by President-elect Trump.
