At the World Federation of International Music Competitions, WFIMC, a new Governance system with one Board, comprising the President and six members, replaces the former two-tiered structure of a Bureau and Committee. After the first elections for this new Board, the Federation announced the appointment of Didier Schnorhk, Secretary General of the Geneva International Music Competition, as its new President. Schnorhk succeeds Glen Kwok (International Violin Competition of Indianapolis) who held the position for six years. In addition to the Board, a full time Secretary-General based in Geneva will take on the role of Chief Executive Officer. Following an extensive, international search, Benjamin Woodroffe (Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition) has been appointed as the new Secretary-General (www.wfimc.org).
The Dallas Opera has announced the names of the six candidates selected to participate in the inaugural session of the Institute for Women Conductors at Dallas Opera. Boris Mesdritsch who has fired at the Opera of Novosibirsk following a scandal over a Tannhäuser production, must have influential enemies. Politicians in St. Petersburg had proposed to offer him a position in one of the theatres of the city, and it was announced he would become Executive Director of the Theatre at the Foundry where he was supposed to be the successor to Andrey Lobanov, who was fired after the financial audit of the activities of the institution. Later this information was denied. Mesdritsch’s friends suppose that, again, the Orthodox Church has influenced the decision. Members of the local parliament now ask that a commission should investigate the case.

Bolschoi-Direktor Vladimir Urin, dem der Rechnungshof der Russischen Föderation Unregelmäßigkeiten in der Verwaltung des Theaters vorgeworfen hatte, wehrt sich gegen die Vorwürfe. Following ten days of intense high-level competition, the Montreal International Musical Competition (MIMC) announced the three prize-winners of its 2015 Voice edition. First Prize was awarded to the South-Korean tenor Kenwoo Kim, Second Prize to soprano Hyesang Park, also from South Korea, and Third Prize to the Canadian soprano France Bellemare. Kim (*1985) was trained in Korea and Germany.
