British conductor Robin Ticciati (33)  has cancelled three weeks of concerts, with Bavarian Radio Symphony,  Santa Cecilia in Rome and DSO Berlin. No reason as been indicated.

Two pianists and a soprano join 15 gifted string players (three string quartets, two violinists and a violist) on the roster of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust’s Award and Fellowship winners for 2016. A Special BBT Chamber Music Prize for Italian musicians worth €25,000 is also being given this year in honour of Claudio Abbado and his commitment to chamber music. Read More →

The Opera Festival of Aix-en-Provence has postponed the production of Ondrej Adamek’s Seven Stones from 2016 to 2018, for budgetary reasons. Festival manager Bernard Foccroulle said, the festival suffered hugely from a reduction of public funding. By postponing Seven Stones he hopes also to find co-producers for the new work.

Der 90-jährige französische Dirigent Georges Prêtre feiert am nächsten Montag den 50. Jahrestag seines Debüts an der Scala mit einem Konzert, an dem der österreichische Pianist Rudolf Buchbinder mitwirkt. Die Proben für das Konzert laufen seit Mittwoch an der Scala, teilte das Mailänder Opernhaus mit. Prêtre hatte 1966 an der Scala mit Gounods ‘Faust’ debütiert. Die Hauptrollen sangen damals Mirella Freni, Nicolai Gedda und Nicolai Ghiaurov.

Rumors in the French press say, that the contract of Leonard Slatkin as Music Director of the Orchestre National de Lyon (ONL) is likely not to be extended in 2017. It looks like the mayor’s office might propose one supplementary year, yet, at the same time, the politicians in Lyon look forward to hire a European and above all a younger Music Director.
