Cornelius Meister (*1980) wird ab der Saison 2018/19 Generalmusikdirektor in Stuutgart. Meister ist seit 2010 Chefdirigent und Künstlerischer Leiter des ORF Radio-Symphonieorchesters Wien (RSO). Der deutsche Dirigent hat aber seinen Vertrag mit dem Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien 2018 nicht verlängert.

Aus Krankheitsgründen hat der scheidende Gewandhauskapellmeister Riccardo Chailly seine drei letzten Auftritte in Leipzig abgesagt, darunter das offizielle Abschiedskonzert am kommenden Sonntag, mit Mahlers dritter Symphonie. Dieses Konzert fällt komplett aus, die beiden anderen Termine übernimmt Chaillys Nachfolger Andris Nelsons, der sein Amt offiziell im Februar 2018 antreten wird.
