Der Bariton Alfred Sramek ist am 23. Juni im Alter von 65 Jahren gestorben. Er wurde 1975 Ensemblemitglied der Wiener Staatsoper, wo er bis zu seinem Tode gesungen hat, insgesamt in mehr als 2.500 Vorstellungen und rund 100 Partien. Seine letzte Rolle war der Mesner in Puccinis ‘Tosca’.
The London Symphony has announced the death of conductor and composer Harry Rabinowitz on 22 June 2016. Born in South Africa, Harry Rabinowitz came to the UK in the 1940s and soon established himself within the industry, rubbing shoulders with the singing stars of the day as a music director at the BBC’s Light Entertainment division and as head of music at London Weekend Television. In 1985 John Williams nominated Harry for a position at the Boston Pops Orchestra, an experience he said was ‘one of the most rewarding and exhilarating jobs ever’. The LSO says: « His relationship with the LSO dates back to 1973 and together we had made over twenty film soundtrack and studio session recordings. »

The Board of Annecy’s Classic Festival has decided to cancel the seventh edition which had to take place from 23 till 27 August 2016. The reason for the cancellation is the association’s weak financial situation. The responsible people however want to look at possibilities in order to continue the festival in 2017 and beyond.

Die Bochumer Symphoniker haben gestern bei einer Probe mit der 2. Symphonie von Johannes Brahms ihren neuen Konzertsaal ‘Musikforum’ akustisch getestet. Generalmusikdirektor Steven Sloane und Akustiker Prof. Eckhard Kahle waren laut Presseberichten mit dem ersten Ergebnis sehr zufrieden. Jetzt beginnt die akustische Feinregulierung des Saals.
On the occasion of tonight’s football match Croatia-Spain the Philharmonie in Paris invites to a concert with the Symphony Orchestra of the Regional Conservatory of Paris. The orchestra will accompany the match shown on a big screen. The images will reach the audience a little later than in reality to allow a team of music specialists to choose among a prepared repertoire and let the orchestra play the appropriated music. To avoid any pauses, a smaller ensemble of 6 musicians specializing in contemporary music will fill the voids. The concert is to start with the entrance of the players, and the music will vary according to the intensity of the game.
