In keiner anderen Stadt Deutschlands ist das Gedenken an die Zerstörungen am Ende des zweiten Weltkrieges so ausgeprägt wie in Dresden. Das Trauma des 13. und 14. Februars 1945, in der die Kunst- und Kulturmetropole in Schutt und Asche fiel und vermutlich 25.000 Menschen ihr Leben verloren, lastet bis heute auf der Stadt und wird nach wie vor den politischen Strömungen aller Couleur gepflegt, gehütet und teils auch instrumentalisiert.
