Karl-Heinz Steffens’ contract as Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra has been extended until the end of June 2027. The 62-year-old German conductor is in this position since August 2020. He has been Music Director at the Prague State Opera from 2019 to 2022.

The 2024 edition of the biennial George Enescu International Competition will take place from August 31 to September 27, 2024, in Bucharest, Romania, with four divisions for entrants in Composition, Cello, Violin, and Piano. Now in its 19th edition, this competition is open to participants of all nationalities born after August 1, 1989. The 74-year-old Jorge Rivero Tirado, guest conductor of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco, died at the Teatro Degollado due to a fulminant heart attack during a rehearsal. Paramedics arrived to provide care, however, Tirado no longer had vital signs.  Born in Cuba, Rivero Tirado had an outstanding career as an oboist and as conductor.

Alexandria Symphony Orchestra has extended the contract of its Music Director James Ross through 2027. The American musician is currently in his sixth season with the orchestra. In parallel he will start to work as the director of orchestral studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia from next fall. Read More →
