Despite a strong support from its patrons and 30.00 signatures in a petition, Sinfonietta Lausanne has suffered a funding cut of CHF 150.000 by the Lausanne City Council. Dutch composer Joel Bons has won the 2019 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition for Nomaden, a one-hour work for cello solo and an ensemble of instruments from diverse cultures. Bons, 65, wrote the piece for French cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras and the Atlas Ensemble, a group of 18 musicians from Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Insgesamt hat die Stiftung bereits mehr als 220 Millionen an Spenden für den Kampf gegen Leukämie und andere Blut- und Knochenmarkserkrankungen generiert und damit über 1.200 Forschungs- und Sozialprojekte initiiert, teilte sie mit.

British conductor Daniel Harding, 43, broke an ankle after slipping on a frozen path inside a park in Sapporo on Tuesday. He is in Japan for a tour with the Orchestre de Paris, of which he is the music director. The tour continues through Dec. 19 with stops in Tottori, Kyoto, Tokyo and Osaka, with Harding conducting all the concerts in a wheelchair.
Italian tenor Gianfranco Cecchele has died. Born in 1938, he made his debut in 1964 in Catania. In the following months he sang at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, in Rome and at the Fenice in Venice. In 1965, he was Pollione in Norma at the Paris Opera next to Maria Callas. Due to excessive vocal efforts he had to interrupt his career and underwent surgery. Read More →
