Der Geiger Bruno Monteiro und der Pianist João Paulo Santos widmen sich den beiden Sonaten und den Fünf Melodien für Violine und Klavier von Serge Prokofiev.
Das Programm beginnt mit dem düsteren Andante assai der ersten Sonate. Der Kälte dieses Satzes stellen die beiden Interpreten im Allegro brusco bei aller Motorik auch wärmere Farben gegenüber. Das Andante zeigt sich hier charmant, dort, melancholisch, und das Ganze wirft mehr Fragen auf als es beantwortet, Fragen, die das Finale mit seinen virtuosen Klängen und seinem tristen Andante-Schluss ebenfalls nicht beantworten kann.
Monteiro und Santos spielen sehr suggestiv, sei es nun in der trüben ersten Sonate, in der klassischeren, lyrischeren und oft verspielten zweiten Sonate oder in den in die Sphären abgehobenen Melodien, die so wenig singbar waren, dass sie der Komponist für das Duo Violine und Klavier umarbeitete.
Die Tonaufnahme unterstreicht vorbildlich den partnerschaftlichen Charakter der Interpretationen.
Violinist Bruno Monteiro and pianist João Paulo Santos perform the two sonatas and the Five Melodies for violin and piano by Serge Prokofiev.
The program begins with the sombre Andante assai of the first sonata. The two performers contrast the coldness of this movement with warmer colors in the Allegro brusco. The Andante is charming here, melancholic there, and the whole thing raises more questions than it answers, questions that the finale with its virtuoso sounds and dreary Andante conclusion cannot answer either.
Monteiro and Santos play very suggestively, be it in the gloomy first sonata, in the more classical, lyrical and often playful second sonata or in the melodies that were so difficult to sing that the composer reworked them for the violin and piano duo.
The recording underlines the partnership character of the interpretations in an exemplary manner.
