Das neue Album des niederländischen Orchesters Philzuid (South Netherlands Philharmonic) enthält jeweils die Dritte Symphonie von Louise Farrenc und Robert Schumann unter der Leitung des Chefdirigent Duncan Ward. Das, was wir hören, ist ein Zusammenschnitt aus Konzertmitschnitten.
Duncan Ward dirigiert Louise Farrencs Symphonie mit viel Spontaneität, insgesamt aber gradliniger und nicht so fantasievoll im Geflecht von Linien und Rhythmen und weniger nuancenreich als Christoph König in seiner Einspielung mit den Solistes Européens Luxembourg, für mich auch nach dieser Neueinspielung die beste Aufnahme dieser Symphonie.
Duncan Ward betont in seiner Interpretation der Dritten von Schumann, der Rheinischen, den fröhlich-beglückenden Charakter. Das Scherzo nimmt er relativ schnell, obwohl Schumann ja ausdrücklich « sehr mäßig » vorschreibt. Aufs Ganze gesehen ist es eine gute Interpretation, aber nicht so attraktiv als die Aufnahmen von Marcus Bosch und Dirk Joeres (siehe unten).
The new album of the Dutch orchestra Philzuid (South Netherlands Philharmonic) contains the third symphony of Louise Farrenc and Robert Schumann under the direction of the chief conductor Duncan Ward. What we hear is a compilation of concert recordings.
Duncan Ward conducts Louise Farrenc’s symphony with a great deal of spontaneity, but overall more straightforward and less imaginative in the interweaving of lines and rhythms and less nuanced than Christoph König in his recording with the Solistes Européens Luxembourg, for me the best performance of this symphony even after this new recording.
In his interpretation of Schumann’s Third, the Rhenish, Duncan Ward emphasizes the cheerful and joyful character. He takes the scherzo relatively fast, although Schumann explicitly prescribes « very moderate » tempos. All in all, a good interpretation, but not as attractive as the recordings by Marcus Bosch and Dirk Joeres (see below).
