In the virtual presence of pianist Yuja Wang, the immersive installation ‘Playing with Fire’ offers a new form of concert experience at the Philharmonie in Paris. It is said that the chosen repertoire and the artist’s virtuoso gestures generate visual worlds, expanding the boundaries of musical performance. So this event consists of a « dialogue between the real and the digital, where sound becomes image and space comes to life as the performance unfolds. »

The audience will be equipped with headphones. At the center of the stage set-up, a Steinway Spirio piano acts « as a link between two worlds, that of the concert hall and that of the artist’s inner visions. »

Invited to wander around the piano, visitors can observe the performer’s gestures, her concentration and the way in which, under her fingers, the music comes to life.

Created by Pierre-Alain Giraud (Best Immersive Work Award, Cannes 2024), this installation continues his collaboration with Icelandic visual artist Gabríela Friðriksdóttir. The acoustic identity of the experience is shaped by sound artist Nicolas Becker: as the recital progresses, the resonances of the piano evolve, transporting the instrument from a concert hall to imaginary places.
