Magnificat Choir & Consort ist ein Ensemble, das in Caraveggio beheimatet ist (Lombardei, unterhalb von Bergamo, östlich von Mailand). Unter der Leitung von Massimo Grechi hat es Mozarts Requiem in der Süßmayr-Fassung aufgenommen. Das Ensemble spielt auf historischem Instrumentarium, mit dem seine Musiker aber offensichtlich nicht so gut zurechtkommen wie jene anderer Ensembles. Dem Chorgesang fehlt es an Relief, und die Solisten sind nicht wirklich gut. Die Aufnahme ist mittig und auch ihr fehlt es an Relief. Das einzig Positive: es wird mit viel Eifer und Hingabe gesungen und gespielt. Aber das reicht nicht…
The Magnificat Choir & Consort is an ensemble based in Caraveggio (Lombardy, below Bergamo, east of Milan). Under the direction of Massimo Grechi, it has recorded Mozart’s Requiem in the Süßmayr version. The ensemble plays on period instruments, but its musicians obviously don’t handle them as well as those of other ensembles. The choral singing lacks relief, and the soloists are not really good. The recorded sound is narrow and lacks relief as well. The only positive: it is sung and played with great zeal and devotion. But that is not enough…
