Haochen Zhang war 2009 der jüngste Pianist, der jemals die Goldmedaille beim Internationalen Van Cliburn-Klavierwettbewerb erhielt. Jetzt veröffentlicht er die fünf Klavierkonzerte von Beethoven mit dem Philadelphia Orchestra unter Nathalie Stutzmann.
Wie schon die Einspielung von Arturo Pizarro kann sie mit der Korstick-Einspielung bei cpo nicht auch nur annähernd in Konkurrenz treten. Aber sie überbietet Pizarro. Das liegt am oft gefühlvollen und lebendig-rhetorischen Spiel des Pianisten und ganz sicher auch am herausragenden Spiel des von Nathalie Stutzmann sehr inspiriert geleiteten Philadelphia Orchestra. Und wenn ich einen Mehrwert in diesen Aufnahmen sehe, dann eben in diesem Orchesterspiel, das sehr reich wirkt und in gutem Dialog mit dem Pianisten funktioniert.

Like Arturo Pizarro’s recording, it can’t even come close to competing with the Korstick recording on cpo. But it does outdo Pizarro. That’s due to the pianist’s often soulful and vividly rhetorical playing, and certainly to the outstanding playing of the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted with great inspiration by Nathalie Stutzmann. And if I see any added value in these recordings, it is precisely in this orchestral playing, which seems very rich and works in good dialogue with the pianist.
