Dieses umfassende 8-CD-Set Ist wohl die umfassendste Kollektion von konzertanten und Kammermusik-Werken des Komponisten Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari (1876-1948). Es enthält konzertante Werke (Violinkonzert, Oboenkonzert, Serenade für Streicher, Concertino für Englischhorn und Concertino für Fagott, Hörner und Streicher), die komplette Kammermusik (Violinsonaten, die Cellosonate, Klaviertrios, das Klavierquintett, Streichtrios, Quartette und Quintette) sowie Werke für Klavier solo.
Die zuvor schon in Einzelausgaben erhältlichen Alben bieten durchwegs gute bis hervorragende Darbietungen. Die italienischen Musiker erweisen sich als überzeugende Fürsprecher für diese weitgehend vernachlässigte Musik. Der Klang der Aufnahmen ist zufriedenstellend.
This comprehensive eight-CD set is probably the most complete collection of concertante and chamber music works by composer Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari (1876–1948). It contains concertante works, including a violin concerto, an oboe concerto, a serenade for strings, a concertino for cor anglais, and a concertino for bassoon, horns, and strings; the complete chamber music, including violin sonatas, a cello sonata, piano trios, a piano quintet, string trios, quartets, and quintets; and works for solo piano.
Previously available in individual editions, the albums offer consistently outstanding performances. The Italian musicians are convincing advocates for this largely neglected music. The sound quality of the recordings is satisfactory.
