The London-based Marmen Quartet and the Los Angeles-based Viano String Quartet have both been awarded First Prize at the 2019 Banff International String Quartet Competition in Banff, Canada. Second Prize was awarded to the Callisto Quartet from Houston.

Comprising violinists Johannes Marmen and Ricky Gore, violist Bryony Gibson-Cornish and cellist Steffan Morris, the Marmen Quartet had previously already won the Grand Prize at the 2019 Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition.

Comprising violinists Hao Zhou and Lucy Wang, violist Aiden Kane and cellist Tate Zawadiuk, the Viano Quartet received the Grand Prize at the 2019 ENKOR International Music Competition. At the 2018 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition they received Third Prize.
