Two Californian opera houses are joining forces to save cost. As reported by The Fresno Bee, Modesto’s Townsend Opera and the Fresno Grand Opera will remain separate entities but will produce the same operas and use the same casts, sets and costumes for each production. The season will consist of two operas per year, with two performances in Modesto at the Gallo Center for the Arts and one in Fresno at the William Saroyan Theatre. The 2015 opera seasons for both companies will begin in January with A Streetcar Named Desire, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning Tennessee Williams play, and conclude in May with Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca
