Can Cakmur

20-year-old Turkish pianist Can Cakmur won First Prize and the Chamber Music Award at the 10th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan.Second Prize and Audience Award went to Tomoharu Ushida, 19, from Japan and Third Prize to Hyuk Lee from Korea.

Can Çakmur (pronounced: Djahn Tchakmur) was born in 1997 in Turkey. He won already several other competitions, such as the Scottish Piano Competition (2017) and the Rome International Piano Competition (2012). He studied in Turkey, at La Schola Cantorum in Paris and at the Liszt Academy in Weimar. He also receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein and participates regularly in the intensive music weeks and activities offered by the Academy.

The Hamamatsu International Piano Competition was started in 1991 in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the founding of Hamamatsu City. Since then this international cultural program has been held every three years.
