The great organ of Notre-Dame de Paris has been dismantled two months in advance, parish offcials said. The organ, which has resounded in the Gothic church since 1733, is made up of 8,000 pipes divided into 115 stops, making it the largest instrument in France in terms of the number of stops. Fortunetaly it did not suffer too much from the fire but it had to be removed for cleaning.

All the parts were then placed in four leak-proof containers and transported to a warehouse in the Paris region, excepting an extensive cleaning and restoration,
