Canadian conductor Tania Miller, 52,  will step in as Interim Principal Conductor for the RI Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School following the passing of Bramwell Tovey.

Tania Miller was Music Director of Canada’s Victoria Symphony from 2003 for 14 seasons and was named Music Director Emerita for her commitment to the orchestra and community. Previous positions she has held include conductor and Artistic Director of Michigan Opera Works (Ann Arbor), conductor of Opera McGill (Montréal), conductor of the ERGO contemporary chamber ensemble. She was Assistant Conductor of the Carmel Bach Festival for four seasons with Bruno Weil, and Assistant and Associate Conductor of the Vancouver Symphony from 2000-2004.

Other concerts previously scheduled for Tovey will be led by Kensho Watanabe and Sascha Goetzel. Leonard Slatkin will join Renée Fleming for the 2023 Annual Gala Concert on June 3, 2023.
