Placido Domingo

After having been criticized by the press and by the orchestra of the Arena in Verona for disastrous performances on August 25 and 26, the tenor and conductor Placido Domingo has sent a letter to the mayor of Verona and the superintendent of the festival, Cecilia Gasdia, in which he concedes « that the level of my artistic performance did not live up to my and your expectations. »

The letter says: « There are no excuses, in those days in Verona I admit I was very tired, to be on stage and even more so on the podium where concentration is fundamental. »

And then he implores the festival management to let him perform again next year. He did not say whether he intends to perform for free, after he cashed a lot of money this year for a complete artistic debacle.
