For the CD Metanoia (review: see below) there is now a film documentary. If the word means « to go beyond thinking », « to broaden and change one’s view », then the film in all its thematic diversity does just that. In 24 chapters we meet Simone Menezes together with Antonio Pappano to talk about Puccini, with Michael Triegel to explore Renaissance painting. Renaissance architecture is exemplified by the city of Sabbioneta, where the Orchestra K, Menezes’ formation, gave concerts. Filming also took place in Florence, Milan and Rome, including places like the Villa Medici and Sant’Andrea al Quirinale.

Other interviewees include pianist Maria Dobresco, Alberto Cavalli, director of the Michelangelo Foundation, Jesuit priest Alessandro Manaresi, as well as violinists Manon Galy and Nicolas Dupont.

The documentary Metanoia thus reconstructs the artistic and musical universe of Simone Menezes and her Ensemble K. It is a journey through Italy between classical music, art and landscape, with a mosaic of musical works from Bach to Puccini, Borodin to Villa-Lobos and Ennio Morricone.

« Female conducting is not based on strength, but on a vision, it is an inclusive conducting, » explains Menezes, who has made a rule out of her vision, which is explained in the documentary Metanoia.
