Irish conductor, harpsichordist, and bassoonist Peter Whelan, 47, will become Music Director of the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale in San Francisco, with an initial three-year contract from the 2026–2027 season. He succeeds Richard Egarr, who resigned in 2024 after a four-year tenure. Whelan is currently artistic director of the Irish Baroque Orchestra.
