The Royal Albert Hall’s artistic director, Lucy Noble, has warned classical instruments risk becoming extinct, according to the Sunday Telegraph. Noble, who said that the ‘YouTube generation’ needs more exposure to live music, is particularly concerned by the decline of certain instruments. A research commissioned by the London concert hall showed that only around 1% of children identified the French horn, English horn, bassoon or contrabassoon as instruments they either play or would like to play.

In comparison, the poll of 1,000 children found that a third wanted to try their hand at either classical or electric guitar while 15% expressed a desire to play the keyboard.
