Der niederländische Komponist Peter Schat (1935-2003) komponierte anfangs experimentell, danach konventioneller. Zu seiner Komposition The Heavens (De Hemel) gibt es unterschiedliche Entstehungszeiten, 1982 und 1990. Es handelt sich um eine Folge von 12 symphonischen Variationen über ein ostinates Hauptthema, und das Werk kann als postromantisch angesehen werden. Es ist den Märtyrern für die Demokratie auf dem Platz des Himmlischen Friedens in Peking gewidmet.
Es handelt sich um eine groß angelegte Komposition von etwa 45 Minuten Dauer, mit teils ruhig-mystischen, teils dramatischen Variationen, die für viel Abwechslung sorgen. Die Musik ist harmonisch und motivisch interessant und wird nie langweilig. Das liegt gewiss auch an der inspirierten Interpretation durch das Concertgebouw Orkest unter Riccardo Chailly.
De Hemel ist zweifellos eine attraktive Musik, die es wert ist, kennengelernt zu werden.
The Dutch composer Peter Schat (1935-2003) initially composed experimentally, then more conventionally. We found two years for the composing of The Heavens (De Hemel), 1982 and 1990. It is a series of 12 symphonic variations on an ostinato main theme, and the work can be regarded as post-romantic.
It is dedicated to the martyrs for democracy on Tiananmen Square in Beijing.
It is a large-scale composition lasting around 45 minutes, with partly calm and mystical, partly dramatic variations that provide plenty of variety. The music is harmonically and motivically interesting and never gets boring. This is certainly also due to the inspired interpretation by the Concertgebouw Orkest under Riccardo Chailly.
De Hemel is undoubtedly attractive music that is well worth getting to knw.
