Camille Saint-Saëns: Klavierquartett in E-Dur; Serge Tanejev: Klavierquartett E-Dur op. 20; Malevich Ensemble (Andrej Roszyk, Violine, Ian Psegodschi, Viola, Stéphane Giampellegrini, Cello, Georgy Voylochnikov, Klavier); 1 SACD Ars Produktion 38351; Aufnahme 12.2021, Veröffentlichung 11.2022 (58'16) - Rezension von Uwe Krusch

The Malevich is described as an ensemble of emerging world-class artists from all European regions. In the instrumentation as a piano quartet they offer here such works by Saint-Saëns and Taneyev. When the musicians are marketed in this way, one expects mature interpretations.

Unfortunately, this recording in no way lives up to the claim. They throw themselves into the interplay with youthful verve and fresh courage. However, they lack elegance of tone and mutual consideration as well as tonal and especially intonational sensitivity. From the very first note, the listener is thrown into the rough and not very sensitive playing, with intonational dubiousness coming to his ears again and again, rather almost constantly.

Unfortunately, these two interesting compositions are not played adequately either. Such a result is very surprising from the otherwise very meticulous label.
