The first round of this year’s Queen Elisabeth Competition will take place in Brussels Sunday 21 and Monday 22 May, at 2 pm and 8 pm. As some of the 68 candidates had to withdraw, 55 singers will participate in the first round.
During the first round recital, the candidates each perform two pieces of their own choosing (opera arias, oratorio arias, Lieder or art songs), in different languages and of different periods, with piano accompaniment.
The performances of the first round are broadcast live on the competition’s website and on the RTBF platform Auvio. Thereafter, they can be watched on demand.
In the first round, the jury members are Bernard Foccroulle (Chairman), Peter de Caluwé, Helmut Deutsch, Bernarda Fink, Jonathan Friend, Sumi Jo, Sophie de Lint, Patricia Petibon, Christoph Prégardien, José Van Dam and Evamaria Wieser.
