Paweł Kubacka from Poland has won the 15th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Making Competition. His violin Sona was recognized as the best among the 76 instruments submitted to the competition. His violin Luna won Second Prize.
Third Prize was awarded to the Sunrise violin by Liu Zhaojun from China.
The competition remained anonymous until the very end. The identities of the makers were revealed only after the final jury session.
The luthier jurors evaluated technical workmanship, assembly, playability, and aesthetic values – both overall and of the varnish. The violinist jurors assessed, among other things, the power and color of the sound as well as playing comfort.
