In 2026, the Philharmonie in Luxembourg celebrates the 100th anniversary of Hungarian composer György Kurtág. Nicknamed ‘the Monk’ for his discreet nature and spiritual approach to music, Kurtág has left a profound mark on the 20th century with works of rare intensity, often inspired by literature.
The Philharmonie pays tribute to him in the intimate setting of the Salle de Musique de Chambre with, among others, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, a close associate of the composer, who will present a dialogue between Kurtág and Bach, while young cimbalom player Áron Horváth will explore the intersections of contemporary music and Hungarian traditions.
