The City of Paris will refurbish both the Théâtre de la Ville and the Théatre du Châtelet and close the houses for 18 to 24 months at the end of the season 2015/16. The French press has raised questions about what will happen with staff and audience of the theatres. Dedicated to opera, musical and concerts, the Châtelet, currently directed by Jean-Luc Choplin, has an audience of 320.000 per season. No indication has been given until now if Choplin intends to transfer his productions to another place. The choice isn’t that big since the Opéra Comique, relatively close to the Châtelet, is closing for 18 months in July 2015.
