Paolo Arcà has been announced as the new Artistic Director of the Fondazione Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

Born in the Italian capital in 1953, during his long professional career he has had experience in all fields of music creation, production, and organization in Italy, as a composer, teacher, artistic director, and as a popularizer of music in the fields of advertising, radio, and television. In the course of more than thirty years as artistic director, he has collaborated with all the greatest Italian and international artists.

At Teatro alla Scala, where he was Artistic Director from 1997 to 2003, he produced such notable seasons as 1999-2000, all dedicated to twentieth-century opera, or the 2001 Verdi celebrations. As Artistic Director of the Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan, he has realized a transversal programming with different genres of musical performances. He is currently artistic director of the Milan Quartet Society: one of Italy’s oldest and most important chamber music concert societies.

 

As a composer, after winning first prize in the international composition competition « France Culture-Musique Contemporaine » in Avignon in 1982, he began an intense creative activity, participating in concerts, reviews and festivals in Italy and abroad.
