Since streaming seems to have a great future, many actors of classical music go in that direction. Unsatisfied by the current offer, some of them go their own way. Idagio is such a platform that connects musicians and audiences directly. The provider’s press release says: « In the coming months, we will gradually roll out features that will allow musicians to upload their recordings and build a global audience of classical music lovers. »  Idagio partners include Wiener Philharmoniker, Ray Chen, The Cleveland Orchestra, Thomas Hampson, Gustav-Mahler Jugendorchester, Franz Welser-Möst and the Philharmonia Orchestra. At Idagio musicians should participate in the revenues as with other streaming services, the operator says.

The Symphony Orchestra of New Haven (Connecticut) has extended William Boughton’s contract as its principal conductor and music director until the end of the 2018-19 season, which will coincide with the orchestra’s 125th Anniversary Season. British conductor Boughton, 66, became the NHSO’s tenth Music Director in 2007.

The opera house in the Russian city Perm, will not be renovated and it will not get a new stage. Too costly, the politicians said. Teodor Currentzis, the city’s ebullient music director is fuming, as are the contractors whose contract was simply terminated. Now, the authorities are considering the idea of building a multipurpose concert hall, which could be used not only for any type of concerts but also for opera and ballet. The officials are confident that the construction of the concert hall will be cheaper than the opera construction work.

Der italienische Tenor Marco Voleri hat sich am Freitag an der Wirbelsäule verletzt. Er brach sich den vierten Lendenwirbel, nachdem eine Plattform auf der Bühne während einer Turandot- Aufführung beim Puccini-Festival in Torre del Lago zusammenbrach und den Tenore eineinhalb Meter in die Tiefe riss. Der Sänger wurde mit dem Notarztwagen in eine Klinik gebracht, wo er operiert wurde. Voleri hat letztes Jahr eine Autobiographie veröffentlicht, ‘Sintomi di felicità’ (Symtome des Glücks), in der er sein Leben als Sänger beschreibt, der mit multipler Sklerose leben muss.

The Canadian Musicians’ Union ‘Guilde des musiciens et musiciennes du Québec’ criticizes the budget cuts imposed by the Government to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation which will affect the broadcasts of concerts. « The Canadian Radio will probably no longer make recordings of symphonic concerts and of concerts given by other ensembles’, a press release says and draws a terrible conclusion: « The access of Canadians to culture is heavily endangered. »

Der japanische Dirigent Seiji Ozawa hat sich bei einem Sturz an der Wirbelsäule verletzt. Er erlitt eine Fraktur eines seiner fünf Lendenwirbel und muss nun drei Wochen pausieren. Der 79-Jährige hat seine Teilnahme am Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival in der zentraljapanischen Stadt Matsumoto abgesahgt. Er hätte dort die Oper ‘Béatrice et Bénédict’ von Hector Berlioz dirigieren sollen. Für Ozawa springt der amerikanische Dirigent Gil Rose ein.
