Orchestra Victoria’s business model has not been accepted by the Australian Arts Council. This orchestra, based in Melbourne (State of Victoria, in the south-east of Australia) is in serious financial troubles after having had five years of deficits. Orchestra Victoria is one of two fulltime orchestras in Melbourne. In addition to its own concerts it is the Melbourne pit orchestra for Opera Australia, the Australian Ballet, Victorian Opera and the Production Company. To stay afloat it has cancelled unprofitable concerts and shed staff. Musicians have agreed to a reduced salary increase. A new business plan has to be produced by end of July.
