In Placido Domingo’s Operalia Competition 2018, which took place in Lisbon, 1st Prizes were awarded to Canadian-Italian mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo, 23, and to Belarusian tenor Pavel Petrov, 27. Samantha Hankey, mezzo-soprano, USA, 26, and Migran Agadzhanyan, tenor, Russia, 26, won 2nd Prize, while 3rd Prize was awarded to Rihab Chaieb, mezzo-soprano, Canada, 31, and Arseny Yakovlev, tenor, Russia, 26.

Emily D’Angelo also won the Audience Award, The Pepita Embil Prize of Zarzuela and the Birgit Nilsson Prize, the latter jointly with Samantha Hankey.​

The Don Placido Domingo Ferrer Prize of Zarzuela was awarded to Pavel Petrov, and to Luis Gomes, tenor, Portugal, 31 who also won the Audience Award for male singers.
