The 2020 season of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra will be the last with Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Nicholas Milton, the orchestra announced. Australian conductor Milton, 51, who will then have been for 14 years at the helm of this orchestra will not renew his contract. Milton said it was time for him and the orchestra to move on, change and fresh perspectives being essential in the music life.
Nicholas Milton is Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra (Germany). He is also Principal Guest Conductor of the North German Philharmonic Orchestra (Rostock), and Artistic Director of the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra in Sydney.
The CSO will announce Dr Milton’s successor in 2020.
