This weekend, for the opening of the lyric season, the musicians of the Opéra national de Bordeaux played in front of their theatre and distributed flyers. Their protest went against Marc Minkowski, the general manager of the opera house, who preferred conducting his own Musiciens du Louvre in Offenbach’s La Périchole. The house musicians now consider themselves excluded and paid for doing nothing. The Bordeaux Opera said, the reason for the presence of Musiciens du Louvre was due to contract obligations for this coproduction.
