Michele Spotti
(c) Marco Borrelli

The Italian conductor Michele Spotti, 30, has been appointed as Music Director of the Marseille Philharmonic Orchestra as of the 2023-2024 season. He will succeed Lawrence Foster, who has been in this position since September 2012. Spotti is also music director of the Orchestra Filarmonica di Benevento (Campania).

The appointment comes after Spotti’s great success with Rossini’s Guillaume Tell, which opened the 2021/2022 season of the Theatre, and the symphonic concert conducted last December with Bruckner’s Third Symphony and Beethoven’s Second Piano Concerto, with soloist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet.
