The Memphis Symphony Orchestra is able to finish its current season. According to a report from the Memphis Business Journal, two $100,000 donations and a series of benefit concerts have helped narrow a $400,000 shortfall from the fall. Nevertheless the financial situation is giving cause for concern. In 2005, the orchestra’s endowment was $4.5 million, which declined to $1.6 million by 2009, and was completely gone by June 2011. The operating deficits totaled $8.34 million.
