Mit einer phänomenalen Interpretation von Balakirevs Islamey beginnt der Spanier Juan Carlos Fernandez-Nieto sein Programm. Phänomenal ist sie nicht nur wegen der stupenden Klarheit des Spiels und der Virtuosität, sondern ebenfalls weil der Pianist nicht nur virtuos spielt, sondern auch den Hintergrund, nämlich die Volkmusik einbezieht, die für diese Komposition Pate standen.
Nach dem ebenfalls hoch virtuosen Lezginka von Sergei Lyapunov kommt mit Aleksandre Machavarianis Lake Bazaleti und Dance etwas Ruhe auf.
Die kleinen Stimmungsbilder der Suite Espanola von Isaac Albeniz spielt Fernandez-Nieto mit viel Liebe zum Detail, ohne jede Postkartenidylle und doch genuin spanisch, mit jener Portion Stolz, die diese Nation auszeichnet.
The Spaniard Juan Carlos Fernandez-Nieto begins his program with a phenomenal interpretation of Balakirev’s Islamey. It is phenomenal not only because of the stupendous clarity of the playing and the virtuosity, but also because the pianist not only plays virtuously, but also includes the folk music background, which was the inspiration for this composition.
After the also highly virtuosic Lezginka by Sergei Lyapunov, some calm comes with Aleksandre Machavariani’s Lake Bazaleti and Dance.
Fernandez-Nieto plays the small atmospheric pictures of Isaac Albeniz’s Suite Espanola with great attention to detail, without any postcard idyll and yet genuinely Spanish, with that portion of pride that characterizes this nation.
