Polish city of Brzeg is remembering conductor Kurt Masur, who was born in that Silesian town which was German at the time. It is said, that Masur’s fascination with music began in the city’s St Nicolas Church. In 1996, Masur was named an honorary citizen of Brzeg. He offered financial assistance to the local music school, and donated them a grand piano.
