29-year-old Hungarian conductor Martin Rajna, Music Director Designate of the Luxembourg Philharmonic, is becoming from 2026 co-artistic director of Wagner Days at the performance center Müpa Budapest, sharing this position with Adam Fischer.
2026 will be the 20th anniversary of the Budapest Wagner Days festival under the artistic direction of Adam Fischer and the 150th anniversary of the première of the Ring of the Nibelung tetralogy. Müpa plans to make the special occasion an unforgettable one with a double Ring cycle, two performances of Parsifal, and a song recital by Camilla Nylund and Helmut Deutsch, with Martin Rajna joining in this emblematic event series as co-artistic director.
Launched in 2006, the Budapest Wagner Days initiative is now not only one of the most popular and pivotal programs in the Hungarian classical music calendar, but has also gained a prominent position among opera fans around the globe.
Martin Rajna, who also works as principal conductor of the Hungarian State Opera, will take up the post of chief music director of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra from September 2026.
