The Théâtre national de l’Opéra Comique in Paris has announced the reappointment of Louis Langrée as Director for a second three-year term, from 2026 to 2029.
The ministry of Culture said in a statement: « An ardent defender of the French operatic repertoire, and in particular of the opéra-comique genre, internationally renowned conductor Louis Langrée had been appointed to head the Théâtre national de l’Opéra-Comique for an initial five-year term in 2021. He has implemented his project entitled ‘L’Esprit Favart’, highlighting the diversity of artistic expression, from Baroque opera to contemporary creation, as well as the original heritage of comic opera. »
According to the press release, the opera house made good results during Langrée’s first mandate, with the development of training at Campus Favart, balanced budgets, and a growing, younger and more varied audience.
Following a successful ten years as Music Director at Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Langrée has been appointed Music Director Laureate, with his first return to the orchestra in this role in the 2025-26 season.
