Ingrid Carbone hat sämtliche Klavierstücke von Ruggero Leoncavallo aufgenommen, der vor allem für seine Oper I Pagliacci bekannt ist. Die 36 Stücke sind meistens zwischen eineinhalb und fünf Minuten lang. Darunter gibt es Kuriositäten wie den Flirt-Walzer (mit zehneinhalb Minuten das längste Werk des Albums), eine Arabische Träumerei, einen Yankee-Marsch, den Mondwalzer sowie eine ganze Reihe von Tänzen.
Es wäre falsch, diese Miniaturen als leichte, charmante Musik abzutun, und Ingrid Carbone hat Leoncavallos Klavierwerke mit einem sicheren Gespür für diese Musik eingespielt. Da die italienische Pianistin die Miniaturen klug zusammengestellt hat, ergibt sich ein gut gesteuerter musikalischer Ablauf, in dem auch weniger originelle Stücke als Interludien ihre Rolle zu spielen haben. Das Programm ist auch gut aufgenommen.
Ingrid Carbone has recorded all the piano pieces by Ruggero Leoncavallo, who is best known for his opera I Pagliacci. The 36 pieces are mostly between one and a half and five minutes long. Among them are curiosities such as the Flirt Waltz (the longest work on the album at ten and a half minutes), an Arabian Reverie, a Yankee March, the Moon Waltz, and a whole series of dances.
It would be wrong to dismiss these miniatures as light, charming music, and Ingrid Carbone has recorded Leoncavallo’s piano works with a sure feeling for this music. Since the Italian pianist has wisely arranged the miniatures, the result is a well-controlled musical flow in which even less original pieces have their role to play as interludes. The program is also well recorded.
